Sui Gas vs Electric Stove: Which is Cheaper for Cooking in Pakistan 2026?
Every Pakistani household is asking the same question — is cooking on Sui Gas cheaper, or should we switch to an electric stove? In 2026, both gas and electricity prices have changed. NEPRA has updated its domestic tariff slabs and OGRA has revised LPG cylinder rates. Use this calculator to enter your real numbers and get an instant answer based on your actual usage.
⚡ NEPRA Electricity Tariff 2026 — Latest Domestic Slabs
For FY 2025–26, NEPRA has set the national average base electricity tariff at Rs 33.38 per kWh — a small reduction of Rs 0.62 from the previous Rs 34.00 per unit. Here are the current rates for non-protected domestic consumers: up to 100 units = Rs 22.44/unit, 101–200 units = Rs 28.91/unit, 201–300 units = Rs 33.10/unit, and 301–400 units = Rs 37.99/unit. If you are a protected consumer (someone who uses 200 units or less consistently), your rate is as low as Rs 10.54/unit for the first 100 units. Also note that from March to June 2026, NEPRA has added an extra surcharge of Rs 3.82 per unit on top of the base tariff, so your actual bill per unit will be slightly higher than the base rate shown above.
🔥 Sui Gas Cooking Bill in Pakistan 2026 (SSGC & SNGPL)
Pakistan has two main gas companies. SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) supplies gas to Punjab, KPK, Islamabad, and AJK — covering over 7.3 million consumers. SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company) serves Sindh and Balochistan. For FY 2025–26, OGRA has set SNGPL's average prescribed price at Rs 1,804.08 per MMBTU, which is about 3% lower than the previous year. For a typical Pakistani family, cooking uses around 40–60% of the total monthly gas bill. If you have a separate cooking-only gas connection, your monthly bill is usually between Rs 700 and Rs 1,500 depending on your usage and protected/non-protected status.
🛢️ LPG Cylinder Price in Pakistan 2026
According to OGRA's official notification for May 2026, the price of a standard 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder is Rs 3,584.90, which works out to Rs 303.81 per kg. However, in the open market — especially in cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar — retailers often charge Rs 400–500 per kg due to supply gaps and transport costs. A typical Pakistani household uses 1 to 2 cylinders per month for cooking, which means the real monthly LPG cooking cost can be anywhere from Rs 3,585 to over Rs 7,000. This makes LPG one of the most expensive cooking options right now in Pakistan.
🏠 Who Should Switch to Electric Cooking in Pakistan?
If you live in an area with frequent gas loadshedding — common in KPK, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and rural Balochistan where piped gas has not reached — switching to an electric or induction stove makes a lot of sense. People who have installed solar panels can cook during the day at almost zero cost. Induction cooktops are around 84% energy-efficient, while a traditional gas burner uses only 38–40% of its energy for actual cooking — the rest is wasted as heat. If you are in NEPRA's lower slabs (Rs 22–29 per unit), electric cooking in 2026 can actually be cheaper than Sui Gas for many households.
💡 Simple Tips to Reduce Your Monthly Cooking Cost in Pakistan
Use a pressure cooker — it cuts cooking time by 60–70% and saves fuel. If you have solar, move your cooking to daytime hours. Never cook on a very low gas flame — a half-open burner wastes up to 30% of your gas. Keep your pots covered while cooking to hold in heat. Be aware that NEPRA's new two-part tariff system in 2026 charges you not just on consumption but also on your sanctioned load — so it is worth reviewing your electricity connection capacity. The monthly FCA (Fuel Cost Adjustment) surcharge also changes every month and can add Rs 1–4 per unit on top of your base tariff, so always check your full bill carefully.
